Almost together with the Mexico-Guatemala borderline is located, east Chiapas, a magical zone where Tzeltzales, Choles, Lacandones and Mestizos protect a great natural richness. Frontera Corozal is in the west side of the Ocosingo municipality, the biggest in the state, a jungle strip which tends to have impressive tourist routes with highly value cultural attractions. It is located side to side with the Usumacinta River.
Located at 165 km from Palenque, community where is located the famous archeological zone with the same name and where begins the southeast border road opened in 2000. This road parallel and very close to the Mexico-Guatemala border line ends in the emerald color waters of the Montebello Lagoons. More than 400 km of this road, that includes Frontera Corozal in its way and the spectacular landscapes of the Lacandona Jungle, all together will be part of an unforgettable route.
Frontera Corozal was founded in 1976. Its ecological richness and tourist strategically located have made necessary the installation of tourist centers renowned for their good service like Escudo Jaguar, where there is and artificial wall to practice climbing.
The archeological zones that surround this community are: Palenque, Bonampak y Yaxchitlan, as well as Piedras Negras, in Guatemala. Near the town one can also visit the Sierra de la Cojolita Natural Reserve and the Montebello Lagoons.
However, due the discovery of two Mayan steles (big stone or wooden slabs with inscriptions) in a place called “Dos Caobas”, a Museum was built which is the main attraction in town.
Due it’s a very comfortable meeting point with several tourist zones in the border with Guatemala, Frontera Corozal it’s been growing as a Chiapas attraction of great importance.
